Volunteers at the Smith Opera House help with front-of-house duties for live concerts, films, and community events. These duties include ushering, selling/serving concessions and the bar, ticket scanning, and the box office. Volunteers are also available to help with mailings, building maintenance, and other duties. (Updated 3/2024)

Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion - State Historic Park

Volunteering at Sonnenberg Gardens provides the opportunity to experience the State Historic Park’s Mansion and 50-acre estate in a new way. Whether your interests lie in leading tours, working at a special event, assisting with maintaining the gardens and buildings, or working in the Finger Lakes Wine Center tasting room, Sonnenberg Gardens has volunteer opportunities available to fulfill a variety of passions. St. Vincent de Paul Society

Emergency Services

In order to volunteer with the St Vincent de Paul Society, an individual must become a member by completing an application to join, paying an annual membership fee of $15, submitting to a background investigation, and completing the Diocese of Rochester’s Case Training, which can be completed online. The St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsored by St. Benedict’s Parish, which includes St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua and St. Bridget’s Church in Bloomfield. Volunteers do not have to be Catholic. The local St. Vincent de Paul Society runs a clothing room, which provides free clothing and household goods to shoppers; a voucher room, which provides food vouchers for Tops/Aldi’s based on family size, and bus passes to those who need them; as part of the Canandaigua Churches in Action family of agencies at 120 North Main Street. We have a Christmas basket/gift program in December. We provide winter coats, hats, gloves, boots, etc., to individuals beginning in October. We also have school supply drives in the Fall, and other drives, as necessary. We are funded through a United Way grant and through private donations. We also accept donations of clothing and household goods for our clothing room. (Updated 11/2023)

The Arc Ontario offers innovative programs & services for children & adults with disabilities or other challenges in Ontario County & the surrounding region. We ensure volunteers are matched with opportunities that align with your interests & the amount of time you can give. These include: sharing a hobby or talent with an individual or small group, assisting with recreational/social events (bowling/bingo/sports), working with senior citizens, working with adults in Day Services, assisting with art/music/or horticulture activities, providing companionship & friendship in a residential setting, working with Pet Connections (animal-assisted activities), working with the College Experience Program, and assisting the Development department with special events & marketing needs. The Jewish Home of Rochester

Seniors

Volunteers help run games like bingo, transport residents to medical appointments and religious services, help in our art room and bring residents to music. Volunteers also run our café and gift shop. Volunteers also serve as friendly visitors who spend time talking and reading to individual residents. We also have special events throughout the year that volunteers can assist with, like shopping trips or concerts. Volunteer groups are also welcome to volunteer for a one day project. The Partnership for Ontario County - EPIC Zone Youth Clubhouse

EPIC Zone Youth Clubhouse, a program that operates through The Partnership of Ontario County, operates as a drop-in center serving youth, ages 12-17. There are two sites, one in Geneva and one in Bloomfield. We are open Monday - Friday from 3-7pm at 21 Worthington Avenue in Geneva and are open 2:30 - 7 p.m. Monday- Friday at 4 East Main Street in Bloomfield. Volunteers with EPIC Zone can support us in the following ways: General engagement with the members during activities or down time, bringing a personal interest into the clubhouse for members to engage in or learn about, support with homework, or program activity planning. Availability for a one-time opportunity, or recurring opportunities are both welcome. (Updated 3/2024)
