Department Mission Statement
The mission of the Health Science and Human Performance Department at Finger Lakes Community College is to promote positive experiences in physical education and wellness by emphasizing the benefits of health, lifetime fitness, and healthy lifestyles.
The department strives to:
- Prepare students in the emergency medical services programs to take state licensing and/or certification exams required for professional practice.
- Prepare students to transfer into academic disciplines related to physical education or health care with specializations in teacher education and athletic training.
- Develop and disseminate applied knowledge in the areas of specialization.
- Provide instruction to nurture a student’s intrinsic reasons for physical activity.
- Stimulate the student to develop an interest in lifetime physical activity and an awareness of healthy lifestyle choices.
The instructors in the Health Science and Human Performance Department will:
- Provide a clear course outline at the beginning of the class.
- Provide clear learning objectives for the course.
- Provide clearly presented academic standards and timelines.
- Actively participate in the course.
- Grade student’s work in a timely fashion.
- Be available to assist students during the office hours listed on the course outline.
- Create a learning environment in which diverse points of view and different levels of preparation and skill are expected and respected.
The students enrolled in Health Science and Human Performance courses will be expected to:
- Read, understand, and adhere to the course outline given out at the start of the semester.
- Adhere to timelines, due dates, and dates for opening and closing of modules.
- Attend class or log on prepared to participate in the class to the best of their ability.
- Abide by the course requirements for attendance and tardiness.
- Purchase the textbook(s), supplies, and/or materials if required prior to the beginning of the class and complete all reading assignments.
- Understand and abide by the Student Code of Conduct.
- Activate an FLCC email account and monitor the account on a regular basis.
