What to Expect at Community Events
Muller Field Station is part of a diverse ecosystem that is home to thousands of different plants, insects, and animals. We host a variety of events that educate the public about conservation and environmental science. Our offerings have expanded to include yoga, art classes, and other interdisciplinary experiences. Learn about some of our recurring programs below.
Guided Nature Walks
Join a MFS naturalist for a walk along the channel trail to observe wildflowers, trees, animal tracks, birds, insects, and many other surprises along the way. Guided nature walks are also offered at other various locations in the Honeoye Valley such as Harriet Hollister Spencer Recreation Site, Wesley Hill Nature Preserve, Canadice Lake, and Hemlock Lake.
Community Channel Paddles
Canoeing or kayaking through the silver maple-ash swamp is an excellent way to see the biological diversity of the region. Join a guided paddle north to Honeoye Lake (if the beavers allow it) or south into the heart of the wetland. Along the way you will learn about the history of the watershed and the flora and fauna of the swamp.
A Talk on the Wild Side
This speaker series features an interesting environmental or cultural topic each month. Our speakers have a wide range of expertise and present on subjects such as bat biology, plant science, herpetology, lake health, astronomy, indigenous traditions, and other captivating phenomena.
