Web Accessibility Standards and Procedures
The State University of New York (SUNY) created the Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility standards to provide guidance on electronic and information technology and web accessibility. These standards are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). These protocols describe best practices that help us produce web content that is as accessible as possible. WCAG and EIT offer suggestions on a range of content types, including:
- Content structure (headings, links, lists)
- Text alternatives (alt tags, captions, transcripts)
- Visual presentation (contrast, hue, tone)
- Content quality (clarity, readability, context)
When web developers follow these guidelines, a wider range of people with disabilities can access digital content.
Inclusive design strategies help people with hearing, visual, motor, and cognitive disabilities use the internet, including those who use screen readers and those who cannot use a mouse. Inclusive design also makes the internet a more friendly and functional place for everyone.
How FLCC Supports Web Accessibility
We use digital tools — such as WEBAIM’s WAVE tool and SiteImprove — to monitor and evaluate the FLCC website for accessibility issues. These tools provide regular, automated reports that alert the Web Services team to make any necessary changes. We also conduct periodic self-evaluations to review accessibility standards that cannot be evaluated automatically.

FLCC is committed to the success of all students. We strive to provide equal access to our programs and facilities. The Office of Disability Services assists students with appropriate and reasonable services, adjustments, and accommodations. Students with disabilities are encouraged to disclose that information to Disability Services so we can better support every student's learning.
