Host an FLCC Student Opportunity
Help shape the next generation of talent through real-world learning. Whether you host an intern, offer a short-term project or job shadow, or provide a service-learning opportunity, you become a vital part of how our students learn, grow, and give back.
Benefits of Partnering with FLCC
- Invest in your future workforce - Our students are curious, creative, and dedicated. They've finished coursework that meets industry standards and are prepared to start working.
- Build community connections - Your partnership strengthens the region. By mentoring students, you help retain skilled graduates in the Finger Lakes by building stronger ties between education and industry.
- Gain fresh perspectives - Students offer new ideas and approaches to your daily operations. They may contribute to special projects, research, or community outreach initiatives.
Ways to Work with Our Students
There are many ways for community partners to get involved with our student learning initiatives.
Organize a professional work experience where students can apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real projects at your workplace. Internships can vary in length, time commitment, and whether they are paid or unpaid, as well as whether they are credit-bearing or not.
We'll provide guidance on internship planning, learning goals, and assessment to ensure that both our students and the host site benefit from the partnership.
Invite a student to spend a day or a short period observing your workplace. Job shadowing allows students to see what a career is like in practice. Inspire interest in your field early in their college journey.
Alternatively, attend career exploration events where you can discuss your industry with students in your field. Ask about existing events related to your business or suggest new ones.
Partner with a faculty member to host a student project, offer a site visit, or share your expertise as a guest speaker. These collaborations bring real-world knowledge into our classrooms, keeping instruction aligned with industry trends.
Our applied learning team can assist you in finding the programs and courses best suited to your industry.
Collaborate with FLCC students on volunteer projects, community programs, or civic initiatives. These experiences connect classroom learning to real community needs, helping students make a tangible impact while supporting your organization’s mission.
